Justy Ueki Tylor

For His was a Genious no Rule Could Contain...

Justy Ueki Tylor, age 20
  • Name: Justy Ueki Tylor
  • Age: 20
  • Rank: Lieutenant Commander
  • Hair: Brown
  • Eyes: Blue
  • Height: 5'9"
  • Either the world's luckiest idiot or the best military genious in the galaxy, Tylor is an enigma of a human being. He joins the United Planets Space Force (basically the futuristic space military in the anime) just as a war against the Raalgon Empire is about to begin. To most people, joining the military is a risk; you could be hurt, captured, or even killed. But Tylor doesn't think of any of these possible consequences; he only wants to join the military to "get the good life." After all, the military gives you free food, living quarters, and when you retire you get to live off your pension (and the cute girl on the UPSF's advertisement was a bit of an influence too ^_~).

Using his charms and flattery, Tylor easily gets into the military and soon is enjoying a desk job in the pension department. While delivering a pension check to a retired admiral, Tylor accidentally becomes involved in a hostage situation in the admiral's home. It is there that Tylor meets Yuriko Star and the admiral's daughters, Emi and Yumi. Using his wits and charms, Tylor once again manages to get out of an almost impossible situation, saving himself and all the hostages, without the military losing face.

Hearing of his heroic exploit, the military decides to promote Tylor and make him captain of his own ship, the Soyokaze. However, there are some admirals who are not trustworthy of Tylor, and he is put in charge of the worst crew in the force. Knowing that captains of the Soyokaze never last long, the admirals believe that they have cleared themselves of a terrible nuisance. Also assigned to the ship are Lt. Yamamoto (who almost blundered the hostage situation because of Tylor) and Yuriko Star. Aww...mushy stuff

The crew soon find themselves hating their captain, who's lazy, irresponsible, an outrageous flirt, and likely to get them all killed. His only order is "Do whatever you want." So, most of the crew decides that what they want is a mutiny against Tylor! Tylor, of course, responds in his carefree way, "A mutiny? Sounds like fun! I want to join!" As Yuriko reminds him, "Captain, the mutiny is against you!", he merely shrugs and replies "Oh..." An attack by the Raalgon Empire soon ends the mutiny as the crew is forced to join together to save themselves. Most captains in such a situation would strike back, go down with a struggle, fight to an honorable death. But Tylor is not most captains. As he says "Dying doesn't sound like fun. Let's just surrender." And indeed, that's what the crew does. By some "accidental" circumstances, however, Tylor manages to defeat the entire Raalgon fleet without any damage to his side! This victory surprises both his crew and the Raalgon Empire, who begin to take special interest in this Captain Tylor fellow. Tylor serious, for once

Tylor continues to have an uncanny amount of luck and victories against the Raalgon Empire. The crew themselves don't know what to really make of Tylor and most just pronounce him an idiot with good luck. The Raalgon forces, especially Captain Dom, believe that Tylor must be some kind of military genious. Throughout much of the series, the audience is shown a man who is merely lucky, however, as time goes on, we learn that Tylor is much more than what he appears. He lives his life by a simple principle: live your life however you want and everything will somehow turn out okay. Tylor is only irresponsible in appearance; in truth, he simply refuses to follow the rules and does his own thing instead. His guise as an irresponsible idiot hides his true colors; he is in fact very intelligent, able to see people for who they truly are and uses this to make decisions in ways others would not. He greatly cares for every one of his crew members and would even risk his life for them if necessary. Violence and death do not suit him and he cleverly finds a way to end the war without either side losing.
